Best Functions of the iPhone Home Button

Almost all people, even if they don’t use iPhone, know what Home button is. But are you sure you know all its functions? Having a home button is a wonderful thing. It means you can never get lost. No matter how deeply you burrow into the iPhone software, no matter how far off track you find yourself, one push of the home button takes you back to the beginning.

Quick Press: Wake up

Pressing the home button once wakes the phone if it’s in locked mode. That’s sometimes easier than finding the Sleep switch on the top edge. It gives you a quick glance at your missed calls and texts — or the time and date.

Multitasking

Double click Home button to reveal all the apps that are currently running on your iPhone. If there are two many of them, swipe up to close those you don’t need anymore. Since iOS 8 you’ll also see a list of people you’ve recently called or texted as well as the list of your Favorite contacts for quick access.

Touch ID

Since iPhone 5S, Home button can also be used as a fingerprint scanner. You’ll need your fingerprint to unlock iPhone, make purchases in AppStore and iTunes.

Reachability

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are quite huge, so you can’t reach the upper part of your screen with a simple movement of your finger. That’s where you need a reachability option. Simply tap Home button twice, and the top of your screen will be moved down to make it easy to reach.

Momentary touch: Unlock (iPhone 5s)

If you’ve taught the iPhone 5s to recognize your fingerprint, then just resting your finger on the Home button is enough to unlock the phone, bypassing the password screen. In other words, you should get into the habit of pressing the Home button (to wake the phone) and then leaving your finger on it for about a half-second to unlock it.
